Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
An evidence-based therapy which has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety and PTSD.
Unlike some other therapies, CBT is typically short-term and focused on specific goals. This makes it a practical option for many people
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A structured form of psychotherapy primarily used to treat individuals who have experienced distressing, traumatic events, it can also be beneficial for other conditions such as anxiety, depression, and phobias, especially when these are linked to past trauma.
mental health experience
I have over 20 years’ experience of working with people with mental health difficulties. I have a degree in mental health nursing, and I am registered with the NMC (nursing and midwifery council). During my NHS career I have mainly worked in acute services, in the last 5 years I have specialised in perinatal mental health care and women's mental health.
I have a Diploma in Cognitive behavioural therapies and I am accredited with the BABPC. I have completed all levels of training for EMDR.
I am a compassionate and experienced clinician and I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's challenges and achieve emotional well-being. I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth and change. My role as a therapist is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights, and develop the skills you need to achieve your goals
.
From my NHS work I know how important support for parents is during the perinatal period, from the time from conception through the first two years of a child's life. I understand the unique challenges that can arise during this time, such as infertility, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, and postpartum illness such as depression and anxiety. In therapy parents can explore their emotions, develop coping strategies, and strengthen their bond with their baby.
How CBT can help?
CBT can help reduce the severity of hot flushes and night sweats by teaching techniques to manage stress and anxiety, which can often exacerbate these symptoms.
Improving Sleep by promoting better sleep hygiene and cognitive strategies to manage racing thoughts.
Managing mood swings, depression, and anxiety by identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviours
Building Coping Skills identifying practical tools and strategies to cope with the emotional and physical challenges of menopause, fostering a sense of control and balance.

Childhood Trauma: This includes physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, neglect, and other adverse childhood experiences.
Accidents and Injuries: EMDR can help individuals process trauma from car accidents, falls, or other serious injuries.
Sexual Assault: Survivors of sexual assault can benefit from EMDR to process and heal from the emotional and psychological impact.
Grief and Loss: EMDR can assist individuals in coping with the trauma of losing a loved one, whether through death, divorce, or other forms of separation.
Medical Trauma: This includes trauma related to serious illnesses, surgeries, or medical procedures.
Witnessing Violence: Those who have witnessed violent acts, such as domestic violence
Bullying and Harassment: EMDR can be beneficial for individuals who have experienced bullying or harassment, whether in school, the workplace, or other settings.
